艺术ist 茱莉亚Haft-Candell’s mixed-media work reflects her concept of 的 Infinite—a philosophy of rethinking and creating new systems. Haft-Candell will further this exploration with related exhibitions, “未来。,” opening this fall at Pitzer College 艺术 Galleries and at Night Gallery in Los Angeles.
在比萨, visitors will encounter an installation of large-scale ceramic sculpture and drawings; a library fitted with ceramic furniture and artist-selected books; events and a zine that will offer them a multi-layered experience of 的 Infinite.
“未来。,” which comprises “Hands/Feelers” and “的 Infinite Library,” will be on view at Pitzer College 艺术 Galleries from September 23 to December 8. 相关展览, “向往,” will run from November 11 to December 22 at Night Gallery in Los Angeles.
的 Pitzer exhibition will take place in the Nichols Gallery (located in Broad Center) and 的 Lenzner Family 艺术 Gallery (located in Atherton Hall). 的 exhibition is open to the public.
的 洛杉矶时报 has described Haft-Candell as a “sculptor who works with clay, making figurative forms that are innocent and physical, 俏皮而原始, 坚韧不拔,超凡脱俗.” Her work reflects the recent interest in ceramics as contemporary art, notably in reframing 工艺 as a feminist practice.

在比萨, the exhibition is curated by Ciara Ennis, director and curator of Pitzer College 艺术 Galleries.
“的 Infinite references origin stories and mythologies,” said Ennis. “It seeks to produce forms of knowledge unconstrained by conventional meaning and classifications. In the objects and environments Julia creates, she constructs sites for dreaming and reflection where the future can be imagined differently.”
Haft-Candell’s exploration of the concept of 的 Infinite is central to the Pitzer College exhibition and unfolds across two sites.
在“手/触角,” ceramic sculptures reference hands, depicted in poses suggestive of lounging, 倾斜的, 或者站立的人物. A series of Haft-Candell’s drawings represent elements of 的 Infinite Glossary, a written and visual lexicon that expands on the significance of the sculptures in the gallery and offers deeper meaning to their forms and surface motifs. 在这个和早期的工作中, Haft-Candell uses visual elements such as infinity symbols, 结, 库姆斯, 辫子, and interlocking hands to create a system of understanding with its own language, 一套表格, 值, 和道德.

Science and 科幻小说 are foundational to Haft-Candell’s work. Her concept of 的 Infinite is inspired by contemporary fiction, most notably the novels of Octavia Butler and Ursula K. 勒吉恩.
